The Ross Institute was founded in 1995 by Colin A. Ross, M.D. The Institute is a private corporation that specializes in the management of psychiatric treatment programs and is currently contracted to provide management and treatment services to UBH Denton, in Denton, Texas, Forest View Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Del Amo Hospital, in Torrance, California.

The Ross Institute Trauma Programs are internationally known for both their intensive programming. Each patient is assigned a therapist who sees the patient 3 times a week for inpatient individual therapy.
Ross Institute programs are based on the Trauma Model of psychopathology and Dr. Ross' Trauma Model Therapy. According to this model, trauma is a major risk factor for many types of mental disorders and needs to be addressed in treatment. Many testable scientific predictions follow from the model, as outlined in Dr. Ross' publications.
