Portrait of Norman WellsPortrait of Norman Wells
By:  Colin A. Ross, M.D.

Dr. Ross lived in the Canadian Arctic from 1970-1975, and again in the summers of 1976 and 1977. He spent three winters there without running water in his home, and one without electricity. During these years, he spent countless hours in the bush, hunting, hiking, and studying the energy fields of the wilderness. He also observed and participated in the industrial and political life of the North, and read widely in anthropology. In Portrait of Norman Wells, Dr. Ross provides seven descriptions of the small industrial town of Norman Wells, each told by a different character. Together, the chapters provide a composite picture of life in the Canadian Arctic in the early 1970's.

See the web site www.normanwells.com for background info on the town.
